Hampton Lighthouse

Another Lighthouse that I have travelled past a lot but have not stopped at as much as I would like is the Hampton Light. It's a beautifully structured pepper shaker style light, standing just over 10 meteres tall. From what I have read it was built in 1911 and in 2007 it was declaired a heritage site. This is one of my favorite Lighthouses in the province, because of it's looks and because it is another that is "close to home".

Of course, it was such a pretty night I HAD to get my picture taken with the light :)

As you can see in the photos below there are some beautiful photo opportunities at this location. I was rushing a bit to try and get here before sunset so I could get clear photos of the area but I'm kinda glad I was running late as it made the view a spectacular one with the sun setting in the background. Visiting this light is well worth the trip over the mountain.

Port George Lighthouse

Here I am again; to my readers, I promise this is the last entry for today. I wanted to get the blog all caught up before next week, as I think I will be trying to see a few more Lighthouses then.

Last night I went for a little drive, met up with a friend and then decided to go hunting for a Light..... and here is what we found.

Port George Lighthouse, located right by the waters edge on the side of the road so very easily accessable. Another cute Pepper-Shaker style Light, 7.6 Meteres tall andappeared to be very well maintained. It was nice going out at night and actually being able to see a lighthouse lit up and shining bright for a change! It was very cold last night however so there was no long visit this time, but that just means another visit is in order. :)

**Update**  It's been 2 years but I finally got to make a revisit to this lighthouse, and in the day time too! It was still a quick "drive-by visit" but I did make sure to nab a few photos of the Light in the day. 

Belliveau Cove & Church Point Lighthouses

Hello folks! It's me again, still trying to get this blog up to date with Lighthouses I've visited so far this spring. This entry is going to focus on two lighthouses that you would see driving down the French Shore along the Evangeline Trail.

Belliveau Cove Lighthouse is another small one, standing approximately 6.7 meteres high. It sits at the end of the wharf that is visible from the main road and you can easily drive out to the wharf park your car and then walk out to the Lighthouse.

It is a really nice place to stop, especially on the week-ends and during the summer as there is a large Farmer's Market nearby that you can visit and enjoy.

Next on the list was the Church Point Lighthouse. Located on the grounds of the Université Sainte-Anne campus. This Light is no longer in use and is in very rough shape, but it's in a good area and there are lots of neat things around to see that it is worth the trip.

I was pleasently surprised to see how "Green" the Campus was. Their own water treatment, power windmill and solar pannels on all of the buildings.... it definitely was inspiring and nice to see a school taking on that kind of initiative in helping our environment.

Just posting a few random points of Interest, there are some beautiful Churches in the area while driving to see these Lights. The first one you will come to is a big and beautiful stone one called L'Eglise St-Bernard.The next you will see is Saint Mary's Church.... it is North America's Tallest Wooden Church with a Steeple that reaches 56 meteres high. Not only is it amazing for that major fact, but it's a pretty nice looking church also. This Church is located next to the Université Sainte-Anne campus.

Gilbert's Cove Lighthouse

So far of all the Light I have been to in Nova Scotia, the Gilbert's Cove Lighthouse has been my favorite. It's in such a beautiful spot, nearly surrounded by water, the view is fantastic on all sides AND the grounds are so well kept it's a nice place to stop and spend some time walking around and even have a picnic.

I've been to this Lighthouse a few times now, the last time before this spring was back in 2008. I always thought it would make a great place for a picnic, so I told my kids that someday we'd go back, and that's just what we did. Packed up a lunch and sat and enjoyed it right by the Lighthouse.

The Gilbert's Cove Lighthouse has been named a Provincial Heritage Site, and it is open to the public with a gift shop and tea room inside. If you'd like any more detailed specs or driving directions to this Light, please visit Lighthouse Friends .com

Black Rock Lighthouse

My trip to Black Rock Lighthouse was a total spur of the moment decision. It was in the evening, close to sunset, would be such a pretty sunset on a clear day! There were some cloud cover over the horizon and it was VERY windy and VERY cold!

Didn't stay long, just long enough to grab a few pics, it would be a beautiful place to go spend some time taking in the beauty of the shore and of course the Lighthouse. :) I really enjoyed this lighthouse, it was a different shape that most I've already seen so that made it that much more exciting to see.

This is not the original lighthouse that stood here, but this one hgas been in place since 1967. Again if you'd like more info please visit Lighthouse Friends to get the history of this Light.

Annapolis Royal & Schafner Point Lights

Took a drive in to Annapolis Royal a few weeks ago and while we were there I made it a point to stop and get some pictures of the little Annapolis Lighthouse.

I always think of this lighthouse as being tiny, but as you can see by the photo with me in it, it's not really all that small! It's a really nice lighthouse to visit, the town of Annapolis Royal is a cute town to explore and the boardwalk is a great place to walk or even to take pictures.

While In Annapolis Royal, we also took the time to walk through the old fort grounds of Fort Anne. The Fort is a great piece of Nova Scotias history, as well as a nice place to go for a walk and a beautiful spot to take photographs. The following photos are just a few of the ones I took while were were there.

Since it wasn't far off I decided to go out and visit the Schafner Point Lighthouse as well. This is also in a very nice spot for taking photos, you can look accross the water and see the boardwalk and the Annapolis Lighthouse from this spot which is kinda neat.

The picture below taken from the Schafner Point Side of the water looking back at Annapolis Royal. I know the pic is small, but if you look hard and to the far right you can see the Annapolis Royal Light.

Bear River Lighthouse

I've travelled by this lighthouse many many times over the years and never really took the time to check it out. This spring I was driving by and decided to go see it. There is a short road that goes out to it, very narrow and probably not the safest place to drive in the spring time with the ground being so soft and the amount of erosion going on, but I drove in and out just fine.

It's quite woodsy in there, but the view of the Digby Gut is very nice. near by is the Bear River Bridge and old no longer used railway bridge.... it's a great photo op on a nice day if you take the time to stop by.

The lighthouse is no longer in use so it is closed up, but still it's a check mark I can put on my list of Lights I have visited.
