Black Rock Lighthouse

My trip to Black Rock Lighthouse was a total spur of the moment decision. It was in the evening, close to sunset, would be such a pretty sunset on a clear day! There were some cloud cover over the horizon and it was VERY windy and VERY cold!

Didn't stay long, just long enough to grab a few pics, it would be a beautiful place to go spend some time taking in the beauty of the shore and of course the Lighthouse. :) I really enjoyed this lighthouse, it was a different shape that most I've already seen so that made it that much more exciting to see.

This is not the original lighthouse that stood here, but this one hgas been in place since 1967. Again if you'd like more info please visit Lighthouse Friends to get the history of this Light.

Annapolis Royal & Schafner Point Lights

Took a drive in to Annapolis Royal a few weeks ago and while we were there I made it a point to stop and get some pictures of the little Annapolis Lighthouse.

I always think of this lighthouse as being tiny, but as you can see by the photo with me in it, it's not really all that small! It's a really nice lighthouse to visit, the town of Annapolis Royal is a cute town to explore and the boardwalk is a great place to walk or even to take pictures.

While In Annapolis Royal, we also took the time to walk through the old fort grounds of Fort Anne. The Fort is a great piece of Nova Scotias history, as well as a nice place to go for a walk and a beautiful spot to take photographs. The following photos are just a few of the ones I took while were were there.

Since it wasn't far off I decided to go out and visit the Schafner Point Lighthouse as well. This is also in a very nice spot for taking photos, you can look accross the water and see the boardwalk and the Annapolis Lighthouse from this spot which is kinda neat.
The picture below taken from the Schafner Point Side of the water looking back at Annapolis Royal. I know the pic is small, but if you look hard and to the far right you can see the Annapolis Royal Light.

As always if you would like to learn more about either of these lights please visit Lighthouse Friends.

Bear River Lighthouse

I've travelled by this lighthouse many many times over the years and never really took the time to check it out. This spring I was driving by and decided to go see it. There is a short road that goes out to it, very narrow and probably not the safest place to drive in the spring time with the ground being so soft and the amount of erosion going on, but I drove in and out just fine.

It's quite woodsy in there, but the view of the Digby Gut is very nice. near by is the Bear River Bridge and old no longer used railway bridge.... it's a great photo op on a nice day if you take the time to stop by.

The lighthouse is no longer in use so it is closed up, but still it's a check mark I can put on my list of Lights I have visited.

For more info on this Lighthouse visit Lighthouse Friends.

Prim Point Lighthouse

After what seemed like an endless winter and early spring arrived. The first decent day we had in early March and off we were to go see our first Lighthouse for this year. Prim Point Lighthouse is located on the shore of the Bay of Fundy marking the enterence to the Digby Gut. A quick drive down Lighthouse Road in Digby and we were there.

It was a beautiful day to travel to the shore. It was fairly warm, even with little patches of snow around, no big gusts of wind and best of all it was a clear day! No fog in sight, and thank goodness for that! There is a large Fog Horn on site (close up pictured below) and I can't even imagine being near that thing when it goes off.

My boys and I had a great day at the lighthouse. Spent a lot of time just looking around, and walking the hillside down to the rocky ledges, it was a really nice afternoon and a great place to get some nice scenic photos of the Gut, Bay of Fundy, and Annapolis Basin all in one trip.

This is the 4th Lighthouse that has stood in this spot, but the red vertical stripes are one thing that has always remained the same. For more information of the history of this particular "Light Station" you can visit this link to Lighthouse Friends.

Over all it was a nice Lighthouse to visit and I reccomend the trip to anyone who enjoys them. You can get right up to the Lighthouse and all around it enjoy it from any distance or angle you wish.

Until next time, Happy Travels.

Welcome To Nova Scotia!

Good Day fellow Nova Scotians, and Tourists; past present and future. If you have found your way here, then in some way Nova Scotia is of interest to you and I hope you will enjoy this blog and follow along.

Having grown up in Nova Scotia, I have had the great pleasure of enjoying it's beauty all my life. This place may be described quiet by some, but you truly can't beat the beauty and history thais all over this Peninsula.

My favorite thing about Nova Scotia is the shore, more specific the Lighthouses that line the shoreline. I have always had a thing for lighthouses, and last year I decided that some day I would visit as many lighthouses in Nova Scotia as I possibly could. This year I have made it a point to actually make that goal a reality. Below is a google map with ALL of the lighthouses in Nova Scotia marked on it:

There sure are a lot of them eh?? So far I've been to just 10 of them. A few of them I visited from a distance a couple of years ago so I do need to make it a point to revisit them and get some better photos. I sure made an ambitious goal for myself didn't I?? Oh well, I am up for the challenge! Now in my researches there are some that cannot be accessed and some others that I will only be able to see from afar, but other than that I should easily be able to see the majority of them.

Their beauty is intriging, my photos are a great record of my visits and it has been a great learning experience as well as I do take the time to look up each Lighthouse and learn about it's history. Lighthouse Friends has been an fantastic resource site with all the info I need including driving directions to get to these beautiful structures. I reccomend this site to anyone who would like to visit any of the Lighthouses in Nova Scotia, or anywhere in Canada or the US for that matter because that site covers them all!!

So over the next few days (or maybe even weeks) I will be posting photos and telling my stories to go along with the Lighthouses I have already had the pleasure of seeing. Now, I know I won't be out at a lighthouse every day or even every week, BUT there are other points of interest I'm sure I will be visiting or that I will pass by and those things I will be showing you also so you can get a real feel for what Nova Scotia has to offer.

With all that said I am going to end my first entry and I hope you will return to see what I've been up to soon. :)
Happy Travels!
